Land Rover Defender Octa: Everything you need to know

The Land Rover Defender Octa retains the signature look of the SUV but gets some important cosmetic changes. Up front, it receives a new grille design and a widened stance. The wheel arches are flared and the height of the SUV is raised as well. The redesigned bumpers give improved approach and departure angles. There’s tough underbody protection as well. The Octa can wade through one metre of water comfortably. The SUV also gets exclusive diamond-shaped badging on the C-pillar.

Inside, the Land Rover Defender Octa gets an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The new Performance seats in the front row of the SUV get more supportive bolsters and integrated headrests. The immersive ‘Body and Soul’ technology used in the two seats has been developed in collaboration with SUBPAC and Coventry University. It allows the driver and front passenger to hear as well as feel the music. It also packs six wellness programmes.

Things remain the same under the hood, as the Land Rover Defender Octa is powered by the same BMW-sourced 4.4-litre V8 engine as the rest of the lineup. However, the power output on the Octa has been tuned up to 635hp and 750Nm. The SUV can go from 0-96 kmph in just 3.6 seconds. The top speed for the Octa has been capped at 250 kmph. The SUV is also equipped with a 6D Dynamic suspension system with pitch and roll control. The chassis has been heavily reworked as well. The new ‘Octa’ drive mode on the SUV focuses on its off-road performance and has dedicated anti-lock braking and launch control.

Mark Cameron, Managing Director, Defender, said: “With New Defender OCTA we have been able to unlock the full potential of Defender. It is the very definition of breadth of capability, and a testament to what we can achieve utilising the very best technologies and talents within our engineering division. With its powerful V8 engine, ground-breaking 6D Dynamics suspension technology, exquisite finishes and unique detailing, it is rare, incredibly tough and inherently desirable.”
