Kia Seltos diesel iMT variant to launch soon

The car has been an impactful addition to the Indian automobile market. Now Kia Seltos diesel iMT has been planned by the company as the demand for the car has seen a significant raise. One of the major reasons why this car is so successful in the Indian market is the options and trips the company offers to its consumers. These options include engine and transmission as well as cosmetic options as well.

The plan of adding another iMT variant to the fleet is making the position of Seltos in the compact SUV segment even stronger. The sources confirm that the company will pair the iMT gearbox with the 1.5-litre diesel engine. We can anticipate the company to launch this new variant after Carens MPV that is scheduled for Jan/Feb 2022. This addition will be the third edition in the diesel lineup as the current pairing is done with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

There is no official confirmation by the company on which model this iMT transmission will be applied but looking at the petrol counterpart we can guess that the HTK+ one will get the iMT on offer. After the addition, we could expect a price hike of Rs 40,000 over the normal manual transmission. The technology used in iMT transmission i stands for intelligent and MT is for manual transmission.

These cars do not have a clutch; the clutch is handled by an intelligent transmission system. We can say that it is somewhere between an automatic transmission and manual transmission. Other than iMT the car is also available in CVT automatic, a 6-speed torque converter and a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The engine option for the Seltos available in India is a 1.5-litre diesel unit that churns out 114 bhp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque while the 1.5-litre petrol unit puts out 114 bhp max power and 144 Nm of peak torque. There is also a turbo petrol 1.4 litre GDI engine which kicks out 138 bhp of mammoth power and 242 Nm of torque.

Features included with the car is a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the support of wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, a 7-inch multi-information display, Kia’s UVO connected car technology. Paired with the infotainment system is an 8-speaker Bose sound system adding to which are ventilated front seats, ambient lighting and more. Seltos is one of the safest SUVs in the Indian market with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control (ESC), brake assist and hill assist control (HAC).
