Hyundai Motor India has launched a dual-cylinder version CNG version of the Exter SUV at a starting price of Rs 8,50,300. Like Tata’s CNG offerings, the Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo features two small CNG cylinders to increase the boot space capacity. The Exter Hy-CNG Duo is available in three variants – S, SX, and Exter Knight SX.

Hyundai Exter scheduled for July 10 launch, new features confirmed

There are no cosmetic changes on the Hyundai Exter dual-cylinder CNG. The key change is the CNG powertrain and the split cylinder setup. Powering the SUV is the 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel (Petrol with CNG) engine which generates a maximum power output of 69hp and 95Nm. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. There is no option for an automatic gearbox with the CNG version of the SUV. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg for the SUV. The Integrated Electronic Control Unit (ECU) ensures a seamless drive experience while shifting from petrol to CNG and vice versa. In a petrol guise, Hyundai Exter generates a maximum power output of 83hp and 114Nm of torque.

Conclusion

Hyundai Exter CNG is the first car from the automaker to receive a split-cylinder configuration. The CNG variants of Aura and Grand i10 Nios are expected to follow suit. Hyundai Exter CNG rivals the likes of Tata Punch CNG, Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, and Citroen C3.
