Hyundai Exter: What we know so far

Hyundai has already dropped a few teasers for the Exter, but none of them reveal any details about the car. However, the newest promotional image from Hyundai gives us a look at the outline of the SUV. As expected, Hyundai Exter will get a stubby nose and a boxy frame.

The micro SUV was first spotted in Korea last year. Since then, Hyundai Exter has been spied testing on Indian roads. Up front, the micro SUV gets a split headlamp setup and LED DRLs similar to the ones on Venue. In profile, Hyundai Exter looks similar to the Casper, bar a few changes. These changes include new positioning for the door handles and a new design for the tail lamps. The tail lamps will likely be connected by a light bar.

Hyundai Exter is based on the automaker’s K1 platform. It is expected to be 3.7 metres long. The Exter will have a larger wheelbase than the Casper, exceeding its length by approximately 50mm. Hyundai Casper stands at dimensions of 3595mm x 1595mm x 1575mm and has a wheelbase of 2400mm. The Exter will have a higher ground clearance than Grand i10 Nios.

Hyundai Exter’s interiors may look similar to that of Grand i10 Nios. The micro SUV is expected to get an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument console, six airbags, and more. The Exter will also get an electric sunroof, as confirmed by the spy shots from Korea.

Under the hood, Hyundai Exter will share its engine with Grand i10 Nios, Aura, and Hyundai Venue. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine can produce a maximum power output of 81hp and 114Nm peak torque. There will be manual and automatic transmissions on offer. A CNG variant may also be released by the end of the year. Hyundai isn’t planning on offering the Exter in a diesel powertrain.
