BYD India to hike prices across its portfolio by 3% next month

BYD India is set to hike the prices of all its cars by 3% next month. The value of the hike will depend on the model and variant. The automaker has cited the disruptive conditions in the Strait of Hormuz as the reason behind the price hike. BYD’s portfolio in India comprises 4 models – Sealion 7, eMax 7, Atto 3, and Seal. The prices are expected to be restored to their original value once the conflict in the Middle East reaches a resolution.

BYD India: New prices in May

The suspension of cargo traffic through the Strait of Hormuz has led to a rise in input costs for BYD. The Chinese automaker relies on the shipping of aluminium and petroleum coke through the region. Petroleum coke is essential for the production of synthetic graphite, which is used in battery packs. The rising input costs have resulted in a price hike across the board. Here’s how the price of each model will roughly be affected.

Model Current Price Expected Price in May Difference
BYD Atto 3 Rs 24.99 lakh – Rs 33.99 lakh Rs 25.49 lakh – Rs 34.99 lakh Rs 50,000 – Rs 1 lakh
BYD eMax 7 Rs 26.90 lakh – Rs 29.90 lakh Rs 27.45 lakh – Rs 30.49 lakh Rs 55,000 – Rs 59,000
BYD Seal Rs 41 lakh – Rs 53.15 lakh Rs 41.80 lakh – Rs 54.75 lakh Rs 80,000 – Rs 1.60 lakh
BYD Sealion 7 Rs 49.40 lakh – Rs 59.40 lakh Rs 50.39 lakh – Rs 56.55 lakh Rs 99,000 – Rs 1.65 lakh
Atto 3

BYD is also looking to launch the Atto 1 in India later this year. The electric hatchback was launched in Thailand last month. It stands at dimensions of 3,925mm x 1,720mm x 1,590mm and has a 2,500mm wheelbase. It is equipped with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include rain-sensing wipers, synthetic leather seats, a rear-view camera, an air purifier, a 4-speaker system with karaoke, wireless charging, intelligent power on/off, NFC car key, and more.

Atto 1

The Atto 1 is powered by a front-mounted Permanent Synchronous Motor. Its entry-level Dynamic variant is equipped with a 30kWh battery pack and produces a maximum power output of 74hp and 175Nm of torque. It can go from 0-100km/h in 11.1 seconds. On a full charge, it offers a 220km driving range. Meanwhile, the 43.2kWh Premimum variant generates a maximum power output of 154hp and 220Nm torque. It can go from 0-100km/h in 9.1 seconds. It can go up to 310km on a full charge.
