Tata Punch Vs Tata Nexon: Which sibling is for you?

Tata Motors unveiled its micro SUV today in India. There was a lot of information regarding the car already available, as the company teased it online on multiple occasions. With details like the exterior, interior design and engine specification are now known we can compare it directly with its elder sibling Nexon.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions, the Nexon is longer and has a bigger wheelbase as compared to that of the Tata punch. Whereas the Punch is wider and is higher than the Nexon by a few millimetres. The dimension of Punch stands at 3,840mm in length, 1,822mm in width,1,635mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,450mm. As compared to Nexon, which has a length of 3,993 mm, a width of 1,811mm and a height of 1,606mm.

Engine

The Nexon is available in two engine options, the first is the 1.2-litre petrol producing 120 Ps of max power along with 170 Nm of torque. The other one is a 1.5L turbo-diesel motor that churns out 110 Ps of power and 260 Nm of peak torque. Both the variants can be bought with either a 6-speed manual or a 6 speed AMT gearbox. Consumers can also consider buying the electric variant of Nexon, which belts out 129 PS and 245 Nm. The motor is powered by a 30.2 kWh battery pack.

On the other hand, the Punch is available in only one engine option: 1.2-litre Revotron petrol, 3 cylinder engine with Dynapro technology. The same produces 85 hp power and 113 Nm torque. You can choose from either 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT one.

Interiors and colours

The interior of both the cars is almost the same including the identical steering wheel. Though the variety of colours and options available with Tata Punch is far superior to options with Tata Nexon. 

Price

Talking about the pricing of these cars, Tata will make the Punch relatively affordable than Nexon, starting from Rs 5-8.5 lakh ex-showroom. On the other hand, Tata sells the Nexon from Rs 7.28 lakh to Rs 11.89 lakh for the petrol variant and Rs 8.58 lakh to Rs 13.23 lakh for the diesel version. Talking about the EV version of the Nexon, it retails between Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.85 lakh. All the prices above are ex-showroom, India.
