After the interior of the car has been teased recently by the company on social media, Tata has unveiled more details about its compact SUV – Punch. The Punch is now available for booking a token amount of Rs 21,000 and consumers can book it either by visiting the nearest showroom or online. The company has made the experience of booking the car seamless by giving users a 3D model of the car,  which they can take a look at. Both interior and exterior are available online.

Design

The exterior of the car is designed using the same IMPACT 2.0 philosophy, which is seen on new Tata cars. After the Altroz hatchback, Tata Punch is the second SUV to be based on the Agile Light Flexible Advanced (ALFA) architecture. Following the styling of its elder sibling Harrier, this also comprises a gloss-black grille with a split headlamp arrangement.

With plastic cladding all over the car, it makes the SUV look larger. The top variant sports a dual colour paint scheme with a diamond cut alloy wheel. Punch will be available in 4 versions Pure, Adventure, Accomplished and Creative. The pure variant is available in only manual transmission while the others are offered in both manual and AMT options.

Apart from the new models, there are custom packs on offer to choose from. These include the Rhythm pack that will change the infotainment system. The Dazzle pack changes the headlamps of the car along with daytime running LED light. And the last creative pack consists of the iRA connect car technology pack.

Dimensions

The wheelbase of the car is quite high at 2,450mm. The other dimensions stand at 3,840mm in length, 1,822mm in width and 1,635mm in height. The doors of the Tata Punch also open at 90 degrees just like Tata’s hatchback Altroz. The company is bringing this car in 7 colour options: Orcus White, Atomic Orange, Daytona Grey, Meteor Bronze, Calypso Red, Tropical Mist and Tornado Blue.

Interior and features

Most of the Interior features match Tata Altroz. This includes a similar dash design, a semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch display unit showing off current gear position, RPM, fuel level, trip meter and distance to empty. Tata Punch will also sport a flat-bottom steering wheel, same as found on Nexon, square-shaped AC vents and various drive modes along with cruise control and auto headlamp and wipers in top trims.

The car will also feature a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system (depending on the variant you opt for) with the support of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Pair with it will be a Harman sound system with powerful sound output to make the ride entertainment packed. For options, the company also offers iRA connect features. Tata is known for making 5-star scoring cars in GNCAP. The story remains the same with Punch as the company has made no compromise by including dual airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking sensors and camera.

The punch will be offered with 1.2-litre Revotron petrol, 3 cylinder engine with Dynapro technology. Except for the Dynapro, the engine is the same which is used in Tata Altroz, Tiago and Tigor. One can choose from either 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT one. The same engine produces 85 hp power and 113 Nm torque.

The launch of the car will be in a few days by the company in which the price range and other features will be announced. We can expect the Tata punch to be aggressively priced at around Rs 5-8.5 lakh ex-showroom, India. For now, the company has availed its customer to pre-book this compact SUV.
