Royal Enfield 650cc cruiser spotted being tested with its upcoming 400cc sibling

The upcoming bike by Royal Enfield has been spotted again being tested on roads. Multiple iterations of the 650cc iteration expected name “Shotgun” have been spotted but this time the bike was riding along with its sibling Scram 400, which is based on the Himalayan. The spied shots were of a heavily wrapped under covers bike trying to keep the real identity a secret.

About 650cc Cruiser

The overall design of the bike is inspired by the KX Bobber Concept that was showcased at the EICMA 2018. The bike has a low stance of a traditional cruiser with long forward set footpegs, a wide handlebar and a low seat which provide relaxed riding ergonomics. Unlike its 650cc siblings, the Interceptor and Continental GT, this cruiser rides on alloy tubeless tyres rather than spoked wheels. 

We can expect a large windscreen as an accessory available by the company during sales. The headlights look circular and classic like all the other Enfield’s. On the rear, we can see twin chromed exhausts giving the bike a thump note. Powering the cruiser is the same 648cc parallel-twin, air-cooled motor that pushes out 47 bhp and 52 Nm of peak torque. We can spot new upside-down telescopic forks instead of conventional telescopic forks. It is also expected that Royal Enfield will also install its new smart instrument cluster as well just as in the Classic 350, which got updated recently.

About Scram 400

It is a road-based tourer based on the Himalayan platform which shares a lot of design features with it as well. Though there are a lot of changes to give it a distinct identity like a smaller 19-inch front wheel instead of a 21-inch dual-purpose tyre unit. Scram 400 will be powered by a 411cc single-cylinder air-cooled SOHC engine that puts out 24.3 bhp and 32 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired with a five-speed gearbox and ABS as standard for safety. There will also be changes on the suspension to make the rideability on road better.

The fan base of the company is really huge in India. With so many projects being in the pipeline by Royal Enfield, it will be exciting to see what new features these two new bikes have to offer to their Indian customers. The expected launch and prices are still under wraps by the company but we can expect these bikes to come either by end of 2021 or early 2022.
