Almost all the brands in India have an SUV option for their customers. With so many options it gets very difficult to choose the best one for you. Here is the list of some top SUVs (under Rs 20 lakhs) according to us which will help you with your buying decision.

1. Mahindra XUV 700

The new car in the SUV segment was introduced by Mahindra. XUV 700 launched recently in Indian markets has top of the line features and bold designs. This SUV comes in 2 engine options. The petrol version is a 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine that is tuned to make 197 bhp at 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 380 Nm at 1,750 to 3000 rpm. The other engine is a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder mHawk diesel engine that is offered in three states of tune. For base variants, churn out 153 bhp at 3,750 rpm and 360 Nm at 1,500 to 2800 rpm the more powerful option puts out 182 bhp at 3,500 rpm and offers a peak torque of 420 Nm at 2,800 rpm. The top of the line variant with the optional All-Wheel Drive (AWD)develops 450 Nm at 1750 to 2,800 rpm. Both the variants are available in Manual and automatic.

Talking about the interior, the car has a smart infotainment system powered by Adrenox with inbuilt Alexa voice command support. The top variant comes with 12 Sony speakers to give an immersive 3D experience. The seat is six-way power-adjustable with memory and welcome functionalities. The car also has 3 riding modes Zip, Zap and Zoom. The car starts from Rs 11.99 Lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 14.99 lakh ex-showroom.

2. Kia Seltos

KIA entered India in 2018 and Seltos was its first offering. The company and the SUV are still standing strong with tons of updates and offerings to the Indian customers. Seltos comes in 7 variants HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, HTX+, GTX(O), GTX+ and X-Line with a further 16 subdivisions for choice of transmission. 

Under the hood, the Seltos comes with three engine options to offer –  first being the 1.5-litre Smartstream petrol producing 113 bhp and 144 Nm of peak torque, 1.4-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol produces 138 bhp of power 242 Nm of torque, and 1.5-litre CRDi VGT diesel develops the power of 113 bhp and 250 Nm of the peak torque. All of which come with multiple options of manual and automatic.

The interior of the car looks premium with a luxury leather finish, touch screen infotainment system, car purifier, start-stop button on top variants, automatic climate control and a sunroof. For safety, Seltos is packed with Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Vehicle Stability Management (VSM), Brake Assist (BA), Hill Assist Control (HAC) as standard. The base variant costs Rs 9.95 Lakhs ex-showroom and goes all the way up to 18.1 lakhs for the X variant.

3. Tata Safari

Tata updated its old SUV Safari with new looks and design which is based on its old sibling Harrier. Safari is the second model from the company to get the new OEMGARC architecture introduced by the company. Safari has multiple riding modes which include Eco, City and Sport for enhancing driving pleasure. tata makes one of the safest cars in the market and safari is not behind this. It also has features like hill control, cruise control, Terrain response modes that enables effective driving on rough, normal and wet terrains.

Talking about the engine, Safari comes with only one engine option, which is the new generation Kryotec diesel mill that offers 170 PS of maximum power with a peak torque of 350 Nm. The company offers 11 variants of the car in between Rs 11.99 lakhs and all the way up to Rs 22.02 lakhs. The 7 and 6 seater options are only available for the XZ and XZ variants.

4. Hyundai Alcazar

The 2021 Alkazar is the new member of the family of Korean automaker’s Hyundai. The Alcazar comes in 12 variants and the range starts from Rs 16.7 lakhs up to Rs 20 lakh. The SUV includes both petrol and diesel options. The 2.0-litre petrol unit churns out 157 bhp and 191 Nm of torque, while on the other hand the 1.5-litre diesel belts out 113 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. Both the variants come with a 6-speed manual as well as automatic transmission.

The looks of the Alcazar differs from that of Hyundai Creta with a broader grille, new alloy, twin-tipped exhaust unit and a better taillight design. Inside the car is the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with BlueLink connectivity which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Paired with Bose premium sound system, blind view monitor, and 64 colours ambient lighting gives the owner a good entertainment setup on offer. Also, features like the voice-enabled smart panoramic sunroof, multi-drive mode – Comfort, Eco, Sport, traction control modes – Snow, Sand, Mud comes as standard.

5. MG Hector Plus

MG entered the Indian automobile market by releasing MG Hector followed by Hector plus. The Hector Plus comes in six colour options Candy White, Aurora Silver, Burgundy Red, Starry Black, Glaze Red, and new Starry Sky Blue shade. The SUV got recent updates with a lot of chrome work all over the body and revised projector LED lights with integrated turn signals. Interior is very similar to Hector having a 10.4-inch touchscreen that comes armed with connectivity tech. The SUV also has an ambient lighting Infinity sound system, a panoramic sunroof, power driver seats, and rear AC vents for both second and third row.

Talking about the engine, MG Hector Plus is available in 2 options, first a  petrol unit which gets 143hp and is a  1.5-litre turbocharged unit with a 6-speed manual as standard and a 48V mild-hybrid setup as an option. The engine produces 250 Nm of peak torque. The other variant of the option is a diesel mill that produces 168 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque by a 2.0-litre engine. As for the safety features, the SUV comes with up to 6-airbags, ABS with EBD & Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Traction Control System (TCS), hill hold control, tyre pressure monitoring system, electric parking brake, rear disc brakes, 360 parking sensor, fog lamps and 3 point seatbelts. MG Hector plus the introductory price of Rs. 13.73 lakh to Rs 18.68 lakh in 16 different variants with manual as well as automatic transmission.
