New Volkswagen Virtus spied again in a camouflage wrap

Volkswagen has been trying hard to build its roots properly in the Indian market. In the process of that, the company will introduce a new car in its sedan category. Volkswagen may introduce Virtus as a replacement for its own Vento. The company saw the competition and took this move to stay ahead of its rivals. Here are the expected specifications of the car.

Table of Contents

Specification

The car has been spotted many times being tested in India. There was also a left-hand drive model spotted recently. This time it is a heavily camouflaged unit. Virtus will use the MQB A0 (IN) platform designed for India. We can expect multiple products from Skoda and Volkswagen on the same platform. Talking about the sedan, it measures 4,482mm in length, 1,751mm in width and 1,472mm in height which is bigger in all aspects than Vento. The larger dimensions will ensure more legroom and extra comfort.

Virtus is expected to get a ‘VW Play’ touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, and keyless entry for higher trims. It will have advanced safety features such as front and rear parking sensors and a driver fatigue monitor. The sedan will also be equipped with connected car tech as well to connect a smartphone and control car features with a dedicated application.

Engine

Virtus is expected to continue using the 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol motor that powers the current Vento. The engine is capable of generating 110 ps of max power and 175 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter unit. Virtus may also get a larger 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI motor that makes 150hp max and 250 Nm peak torque. It is likely to be paired to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The prices and launch date still remains under wraps by the company. We can expect the sedan to come by the end of this year or early 2022. Volkswagen will launch this car after Taigun and the car will give direct competition to Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
