Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line’s safety features revealed

Volkswagen India is gearing up to launch the Tiguan R-Line SUV in India on April 14. The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line will serve as the automaker’s flagship SUV in India. It will be imported via the CBU route. Volkswagen is currently accepting bookings for the SUV at a token amount of Rs 25,000. Ahead of the launch, the automaker has revealed the R-Line’s safety features.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line: Everything we know so far

The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line stands at dimensions of 4539mm x 1859mm x 1656mm and has a 2,680mm wheelbase. Its front fascia features LED Plus headlamps connected by a glass-covered horizontal strip. The radiator grille openings are located on either end of the front bumper and maintain optimal air flow. Along the sides, the SUV flaunts an athletic shoulder line over rounded wheel arches. At the back, the Tiguan R-Line gets sleek LED taillamps. A smoked LED light bar connects the two tail lamps.

The Tiguan R-Line will be made available in 6 monotone colours: Persimmon Red Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White with Mother of Pearl Effect, and Oyster Silver Metallic.

Inside, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV is decked with features like a 3-zone climate control system, a panoramic sunroof, illuminated door handles, 30-colour ambient lighting, 2 wireless charging pads, massage seats with lumbar support, and more.

On the safety front, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line boasts 9 airbags, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control, front and rear disc brakes, and more. The Level 2 ADAS package on the SUV consists of features like Side Assist, Front Assist, Lane Assist, Park Assist Plus with Park Distance Control, Active Cruise Control, and more. The SUV has received a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

Powering the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This engine can produce a maximum power output of 204hp and 320Nm of torque. It is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The SUV will also get Volkswagen’s 4Motion AWD system. It can go from 0-100kmph in 7.1 seconds, with the top speed capped at 229kmph.

Final Thoughts

Ahead of the launch of the Tiguan R-Line, Volkswagen India has delisted the regular Tiguan SUV from its official website. The regular Tiguan was priced at Rs 38.17 lakh. We expect the R-Line to fetch Rs 50 lakh. It will rival the BMW X1, Volvo XC40, Mercedes Benz GLA, and Audi Q3 in India.
