Tata Punch EV facelift spotted testing without camouflage

The Tata Punch EV is set to be refreshed with a facelift model on February 10. Ahead of the launch, the compact electric SUV was spotted testing in an undisguised form. The automaker officially revealed the exterior of the EV earlier this week. The new Punch EV will get some minor cosmetic tweaks and feature upgrades, but will remain mechanically unchanged.

Tata Punch EV facelift: What to expect?

The undisguised test mule of the Tata Punch EV facelift gives an unfettered view of its front fascia. The black trim connecting the LED headlamp cutouts to the air dam has been removed in favour of a cleaner look. The design of the front bumper, air dam, and skid plate has also been tweaked. The LED headlamps and Y-shaped DRLs remain unchanged. Unlike the ICE model, the DRLs of the Punch EV are connected by a light bar.

The profile of the Punch EV facelift has not been meddled with. The current model and the facelift look identical along the sides. Tata may add a new design for the alloy wheels on the higher variants of the SUV. At the back, the EV takes inspiration from its ICE counterpart that was launched last month, rocking similar connected tail lamps and rear bumper. Tata has confirmed 2 new paint shades for the facelift model – Brown and Yellow.

Tata has kept a tight lid on the interior of the Punch EV facelift. We expect the new model to retain the dashboard layout of the current one. It may get a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. Other features like automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, auto-dimming IVRM, wireless charging, and ADAS are also expected to make the cut. Tata may introduce a new interior colour theme for the top-spec variants.

There will not be any mechanical changes on the new Tata Punch EV. It will continue to be offered in 2 battery sizes – 25kWh (Standard) and 35kWh (LR). The Standard variants have a 315km driving range. The front-mounted electric motor generates a maximum power output of 82hp and 114Nm torque on these variants. It can take the EV from 0-100km/h in 13.5 seconds.

Meanwhile, the LR variants are tuned to produce a maximum power output of 122hp and 190Nm torque. They can go from 0-100kmph in 9.5 seconds. The top speed is capped at 140kmph. These variants have a 421km driving range. The larger battery pack supports 50kW fast charging, taking 40 minutes to go from 10% to 80%.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current Tata Punch EV lineup start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 14.44 lakh for the top-spec variant. The facelifted model will demand a small premium. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Citroen eC3, MG Comet EV, Mahindra XUV400 EV, and Tata Tiago EV in India.
