After Ola Electric launched its affordable S1 X electric scooter earlier this year, Bengaluru tech startup, Simple Energy, has thrown the gauntlet by announcing an affordable scooter of its own. Reports of an affordable offering from Simple Energy first surfaced back in June. The tech startup has now confirmed that the scooter will be called ‘Dot One’ and will launch in India on December 15.

Like Ola’s budget scooter, Simple Dot One will retain the design and styling of its elder sibling, Simple One. The Dot One will get a non-removable 3.7kWh battery pack. This battery pack can deliver a driving range of 151km on a full charge. The company also claims that the Dot One’s specially crafted tyres help with its efficiency numbers. The budget scooter is expected to get a less powerful motor than the Simple One, although the company has not revealed the power output figures so far.
Talking about the features, the Simple Dot One will get a TFT touchscreen instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. This unit is expected to be the one that is also present on the company’s flagship offering. The budget scooter is also expected to receive app support. Simple Energy claims that the Dot One will offer more than 30 litres of under-seat storage. Simple One and Dot One are underpinned by the same platform.
In comparison, Simple Energy’s flagship offering One has an IP67-rated 5kWh battery pack that offers a driving range of 212km. Using a 750W fast charger, this battery pack can be charged from 0-80% in 5 hours and 54 minutes. The permanent motor on the scooter delivers a power output of 8.5kW and 72Nm of torque. The scooter can accelerate from 0-47kmph in 2.77 seconds. Its top speed has been capped at 105kmph.

Simple Energy started the delivery process for the One in June 2023 after unveiling it in 2021. Simple Dot One will not take so long to reach the homes of buyers. The startup is expected to start rolling out deliveries in January. Pricing still remains a mystery, but we expect the Simple Dot One to be priced under Rs 1 lakh. In this price range, it will be a direct rival to the Ola S1 X.
