Renault Triber gets a turbo-petrol engine, prices start at Rs 7.84 lakh

The Renault Triber has finally received a turbo-petrol engine option. This is the same engine that powers the Kiger SUV. On the Triber, it is available with the Evolution, Techno, and Emotion trims. Prices for these turbo-petrol variants start at Rs 7.84 lakh and go up to Rs 8.99 lakh. Depending on the trim level, the turbo variants are priced Rs 94,000 – Rs 1.11 lakh higher than their NA petrol counterparts.

The 1-litre ‘HR10’ three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 100hp and 180Nm of torque. Its torque output is 20Nm higher than before. At the moment, this engine is available with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. Renault will add a CVT option for it soon. The Triber Turbo can go from 0-100km/h in 10.8 seconds. It offers a mileage of 21km/l (ARAI-tested).

The 1-litre three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 72hp and 96Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or automated-manual transmission. The latter option is only available with the top-spec Emotion trim. This engine offers a mileage of 19.76km/l (ARAI-tested).

Apart from the exclusive ‘Turbo’ badging, no cosmetic changes have been made to the Triber Turbo. Things remain unchanged inside the vehicle too. It continues to offer an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include second- and third-row AC vents, automatic climate control, a start/stop push button, a cooled storage box, cruise control, wireless charging, and more. The boot space can be expanded to 625 litres by collapsing the third seating row.

Safety features include 6 airbags (standard), a 360-degree camera, ABS, front parking sensors, cruise control, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring Sensor, traction control, hill hold assist, and ISOFIX child anchorages.

Final Thoughts

With the turbo-petrol engine out of the way, Renault is planning to introduce a CNG option for its midsize MPV next. The CNG powertrain will be based on the turbo-petrol engine. The dual-fuel cylinders will be placed under the boot floor. Currently, the Triber is available with an aftermarket CNG kit only. The MPV rivals the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, and Kia Carens in India.
