Honda City facelift spotted undisguised ahead of launch

The Honda City facelift is set to launch in India on May 22. Ahead of the launch, the sedan was spotted without camouflage, revealing crucial information about its front fascia. The facelifted model has been spied testing extensively in India and other countries, but this is the first time it has been caught undisguised. The spy shots give a look at its redesigned grille, headlamps, bumper, and alloy wheels.

Honda City facelift: What to expect?

Honda has revamped the front fascia of the City facelift. The sedan features sharper LED headlamps with integrated DRLs. The grille gets a mesh pattern. This pattern extends to the air dam on the reworked bumper. The redesigned air inlets have been placed on either side of the bumper. The Honda logo has been placed above the grille. No changes have been made along the sides apart from a new design for the alloy wheels. While the spy shot does not reveal the rear look of the sedan, it is expected to get a refreshed design for the tail lamps.

The spy shots of the Honda City facelift that have surfaced so far have not provided a clear look at its interior. The new version of the sedan will get minor tweaks on its dashboard and door trims. It will feature a larger infotainment system with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The current model packs an 8-inch free-standing display for the infotainment module. Other features like ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, dual-zone climate control, adjustable rear headrests, an 8-speaker audio system, an air purifier, an electric sunroof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and Level 2 ADAS are expected to make the cut.

Current-gen Honda City

The Honda City facelift will remain mechanically unchanged. It will continue to be powered by the 1.5-litre, naturally aspirated, 4-cylinder, iVTEC petrol engine that does duty on the current model. This engine generates a maximum power output of 121hp and 145Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or CVT gearbox. Paired with a strong hybrid setup, it puts out 126hp. This version is mated to an e-CVT gearbox. The petrol-manual and petrol-automatic variants offer a fuel economy of 17.8km/l and 18.4km/l, respectively. Meanwhile, the strong hybrid variant has a mileage of 27.13km/l.

Final Thoughts

The current Honda City lineup is priced between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 16.07 lakh. The facelifted model will demand a small premium. It will rival the likes of the Hyundai VernaVolkswagen VirtusSkoda Slavia, and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz in India.
