2026 Volvo EX90: What’s new?

Volvo has replaced the 400V electric system on the EX90 with an 800V architecture. This enables faster charging speeds. The battery management software of the EV uses a smart algorithm which works in tandem with the new electric architecture to optimise charging, improve acceleration, and extend the driving range. The battery pack now supports charging speeds up to 350kW, a significant upgrade over 250kW on the current model. A quick 10-minute charge offers a driving range of 250km.

The NVIDIA Xavier chip has been replaced with dual NVIDIA Drive AGX Orin chips on the updated model. This processor is capable of 500 TOPS (Trillion Operations Per Second) of computing power. This means the EX90 will be better equipped for handling AI tasks. The current owners of the Volvo EX90 will get a free one-time upgrade to this dual processor through a scheduled Volvo workshop visit.

The 2026 EX90 comes with a new safety feature – Emergency Stop Assist (ESA). This feature is designed to bring the car to a controlled stop in its lane if the driver fails to respond to attention or hands-off warnings. When the car comes to a halt, the e-call feature connects the car to an emergency call centre linked to Volvo Cars. Other new features include expanded automatic emergency steering functionality in darkness, Park Pilot assist for parallel parking, and an electrochromic panoramic roof.
