Volkswagen India has made six airbags a standard feature for the Virtus sedan and Taigun SUV. This means that the entirety of Volkswagen’s India portfolio offers six airbags as standard since the Tiguan already had this feature. Despite adding six airbags to the entry-level Virtus and Taigun models, Volkswagen has not increased their price. The Skoda counterparts of the two vehicles – Kushaq and Slavia – got this upgrade back in April.

The latest safety upgrade brings six airbags to the Comfortline and Highline trims of the Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun. Earlier, this feature was only available on the Topline trims. The GT Edge, Sound, and Sport Editions of the two cars also get this upgrade.
In April 2023, Volkswagen Virtus along with its Skoda counterpart, Slavia, scored a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP crash tests. The Taigun and Kushaq SUVs were awarded a 5-star rating by GNCAP in October 2022. They were one of the first cars to be tested under the updated guidelines.
Volkswagen Virtus and Taigun are available in two powertrain options. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine can produce a maximum power output of 150hp and 250Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 178Nm of torque. This engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.
The two cars feature a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a 6-speaker sound system, an electric sunroof, ventilated front seats, and a multi-function steering wheel. They also get the My Volkswagen Connect app for some connected features such as driving behaviour, live tracking, and more.
