Volkswagen Taigun achieves 1 lakh sales milestone

Volkswagen Taigun has grossed 1 lakh sales since its launch in September 2021. The midsize SUV rivals the segment-leading Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder along with its Kia sibling, Seltos. Out of the 1 lakh units sold, over 67,000 sales have come domestically, the rest being exports. Since the SUV has completed its midlife cycle of 3 years, the automaker will facelift it soon.

Volkswagen Taigun: Successful domestically and overseas

By the end of August, Volkswagen had sold 67,140 units in India, with 32,742 units shipped to overseas markets. This brings the total to 99,882 units. The current projection indicates that the Taigun crossed the 1 lakh sales landmark this month.

As you can see in the chart data, FY2023 was the best year for the sales of Volkswagen Taigun. The automaker sold 21,736 units of the SUV in FY2023 and exported 7,958. The sales slumped in the following years but the automaker managed to export more units overseas (7,958 vs 12,621).

Volkswagen Taigun comes in two engine options. The 1.5-litre TSI generates a maximum power output of 150hp and 250Nm of peak torque. This engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG. 

The other option that the company offers to its customers is a 1.0-litre TSI engine. This engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 178Nm of peak torque. It can be mated to a 6 manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic automatic transmission.

 

In terms of features, the Volkswagen Taigun is offered with a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a 6-speaker sound system, ventilated front seats, a multi-function steering wheel, and an electric sunroof. The My Volkswagen Connect app supports connected features such as driving behaviour, live tracking, and more.

Conclusion

Prices for the Volkswagen Taigun start at Rs 11.70 lakh and go up to Rs 20 lakh in India. It rivals other midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, Citroen C3 Aircross, Toyota Urban Cruiser HyRyder, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
