Skoda Superb to be re-introduced in India on April 3

Key Highlights

  • A year after its discontinuation, Skoda Superb will be relaunched in India next month.
  • Skoda is reintroducing the previous-gen Superb, with no news about the launch of the fourth-gen model.
  • The sedan will be available in a single top-spec L&K trim.

After being pulled off the Indian market in April 2023, Skoda Superb is set to be re-introduced in the country next month. The Superb was discontinued when the BS6 Phase II emission norms came into effect on April 1, 2023. Skoda will be re-launching the same generation of sedan with an updated engine. The fourth-gen Superb which was unveiled globally last year has not made it to India yet.

Skoda Superb will be imported as a CBU unit

Until 2023, Skoda Superb was a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) import which was assembled in India. The re-introduced model, however, is a CBU (Completely Built Up) Unit. Indian Govt.’s  GSR 870 rule allows automakers to import up to 2,500 vehicles a year without homologation. Previously, Skoda used this rule to import limited units of the Karoq SUV.

Skoda Superb will be re-launched in India in a single trim. This is expected to be the top-spec L&K (Laurin & Klement) trim of the sedan. This trim packs premium features like an ADAS package, a 360-degree camera, park assist, and adaptive cruise control.

The fourth-gen Skoda Superb features a large 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with three customisable rotary control knobs right under the display. The ADAS package offered with the 4th-gen Superb contains features like Crossroad Assist, Turn Assist, Front Assist, Predictive Cyclist Protection, and more. The sedan has 10 airbags.

The previous-gen Skoda Superb making its way to India is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo petrol engine. This engine is compliant with the BS6 Phase II emission norms. It generates a maximum power output of 190hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The sedan can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.8 seconds.

Conclusion

Before it was discontinued in India, Skoda Superb was priced between Rs 34.19 lakh – Rs 37.29 lakh. Now that the sedan is being imported via the CBU route, expect it to cost a significant premium. The top-spec trim making its way to India could be priced around Rs 45 lakh. Upon launch, the Skoda Superb will directly rival the Toyota Camry.
