Skoda Superb re-launched in India at Rs 54 lakh

After a year-long hiatus, Skoda Superb has been re-launched in India. The premium sedan is being brought to India as a Completely Built Up (CBU) import. This explains its price tag of Rs 54 lakh. The Superb was pulled from the Indian market in April 2023 due to its failure to comply with the BS6 Phase II norms. The re-introduced version of the sedan is compliant with the updated emission norms.

Skoda Superb: Only 100 units available 

Skoda is importing only 100 units of the top-spec L&K (Laurin & Klement) trim of the Superb to India. Indian Govt.’s  GSR 870 rule allows automakers to import up to 2,500 vehicles a year without homologation. Previously, Skoda India used this rule to import the Karoq SUV. It should also be noted that Skoda is re-launching the 2nd-gen Superb which was discontinued in India last year. It remains to be seen whether the automaker will launch the 4rd-gen Skoda Superb, which made its global debut in late 2023, in India.

The top-spec L&K variant of Skoda Superb packs a lot of premium features. The sedan gets a 9-inch Columbus infotainment system with support for wireless charging and wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The 12-way adjustable front-row electric seats also add a dose of luxury to the sedan. The driver’s seat also has a massage and memory function. The new L&K trim of the sedan also rocks the automaker’s dynamic chassis control tech, 9 airbags, and TPMS.

Talking about the powertrain, the BS6 Phase II-compliant 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbo petrol engine on the Skoda Superb produces a maximum power output of 190hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The sedan can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 7.8 seconds.

Conclusion

Skoda Superb is available in three colour options – Rosso Brunello, Water World Green, and Magic Black. It costs a whopping Rs 16.71 lakh more than its 2023 counterpart. This makes it a direct rival to the Toyota Camry, which is currently priced at Rs 46.17 lakh.
