Skoda Kylaq garners 10,000 bookings in 10 days, base variant sold out

Skoda has halted bookings for the entry-level Classic variant of the Kylaq.

Skoda unveiled its newest compact SUV in India last month. The Skoda Kylaq was subsequently launched on December 2 at a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh. Since its launch, the Kylaq has attracted over 10,000 bookings. The Classic trim of the SUV has sold out, with Skoda India halting the bookings for the entry-level variant.

Skoda Kylaq: Off to a flying start

Skoda India will produce 33,000 units of the Kylaq in its first stage of production. The sub-4m SUV will be manufactured in the automaker’s Pune plant. Once the first batch of the SUV has been delivered, Skoda will reopen the bookings for the sold-out variants. The automaker plans to deliver all first-batch units by May 2025. Skoda India has also increased the production capacity of its Pune plant by 30%. The facility aims to produce 255,000 vehicles annually.

Skoda Kylaq stands at dimensions of 3,995mm x 1,783mm x 1,619mm and a 2,566mm wheelbase. It follows the automaker’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, becoming the first Skoda SUV in India to do so. The front grille of the SUV flaunts a shiny black finish and 3D ribs. Flanking the grille on either side are sleek LED DRLs. The split LED headlamps are housed inside boxy cutouts under the DRLs. The LED tail lamps at the back are connected by a black trim with the Skoda logo.

Under the hood, Skoda Kylaq gets a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 178Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The SUV can go from 0 to 100 kph in just 10.5 seconds. Its top speed is capped at 188kmph.

Conclusion

Prices for the Skoda Kylaq start at Rs 7.89 lakh for the Classic variant and go up to Rs 14.40 lakh for the Prestige AT variant. As mentioned earlier, the bookings for the entry-level Classic variant will reopen in May 2025. The Kylaq rivals the likes of Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, and Kia Sonet in India.
