Nissan Motor has teamed up with Motozen to retrofit the Magnite SUV with a CNG kit. Motozen will provide the warranty for the kit components. The fitment of these kits will be carried out at government-approved fitment centres. The Nissan Magnite CNG SUV will be rolled out in two phases. Phase 1 of the rollout will cover 7 states: Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala and Karnataka.
The retrofitted CNG kit is only available with the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine of the new Nissan Magnite. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Nissan has not revealed the mechanical specs of the CNG model so far. The fuel economy has not been revealed either.
The regular 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine variants of the Nissan Magnite produce a maximum power output of 72hp and 96Nm of torque. These variants are available in a 5-speed manual and automatic transmission options. The SUV is also available with a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine pumps out 100hp and 160Nm. It can be mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
Mr Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, said, “The New Nissan Magnite has been a phenomenal product for us and has led the success story in India. With a view to meet the requirements of customers, Nissan Dealers will provide an alternate fuel option in the form of a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit which will be carried out at the authorised fitment centres for customers. We are confident that this move will enhance the popular compact SUV’s value proposition and practicality.”
