Bharat NCAP awards Maruti Suzuki Victoris a 5-star safety rating

Maruti Suzuki Victoris has been awarded a 5-star safety rating by Bharat NCAP. The midsize SUV was unveiled by Maruti earlier today. It is the second midsize SUV from the automaker and the first to get an ADAS package. The SUV scored 31.66 points in the Adult Occupant Protection test and 43 points in the Child Occupant Protection test. A 5-star rating from BNCAP makes it one of the safest midsize SUVs in the country.

In the Adult Occupant Protection test, the Victoris was crash tested using a front and side barrier. In the Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier test, the SUV scored 15.66 points out of a possible 16. It offered good protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs, and feet. The chest and legs showed adequate protection. Meanwhile, the protection offered to the passenger was good overall. In the Side Movable Deformable Barrier test, the SUV achieved the highest possible score of 16 points. It offered good protection to all body parts.

In the Child Occupant Protection test, the Maruti Suzuki Victoris got a Dynamic score of 24 points (out of a possible 24), CRS installation score of 12 points (out of a possible 12), and a Vehicle Assessment score of 7 points (out of a possible 13). The SUV was crash tested with 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies. The rear-facing child seats were installed in the second row seats using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.

The Victoris offers 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Hill Hold Control, Reverse Parking Sensors, 3-Point seat belts, and seat belt reminder as standard safety features across all variants. The higher variants are available with premium safety features like all-wheel disc brakes, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a 360-degree camera, front parking sensors, rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake, and more.

The Level 2 ADAS package on the SUV has over 10 features. These include Automatic Emergency Brake, Adaptive Cruise Control with Curve Speed Reduction, Lane Keep Assist, High Beam Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor with Lane Change Alert, and more.

Final Thoughts

Bookings for the Victoris are currently open. Buyers can book their unit for a token amount of Rs 11,000. Maruti will announce the pricing of the SUV upon its launch. It will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Citroen Aircross, MG Astor, and other midsize and compact SUVs.
