Maruti Suzuki e Vitara goes into production

Maruti Suzuki has started the production phase of its debut EV, the e Vitara. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was present at the automaker’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat to flag off the production of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. This plant will manufacture the electric SUV for domestic sales as well as foreign exports. The e Vitara made its debut in Italy last year. It was first showcased in India at the Bharat Global Mobility Expo in January 2025.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Maruti goes electric!

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is based on the automaker’s eVX concept. It stands at dimensions of 4,272mm x 1,800mm x 1,640mm and has a 2,700mm wheelbase. Its front fascia features an upright nose, a shut-off grille, edgy headlamps, and tri-slash LED DRLs. The door handles of the SUV are mounted on the C-pillar. The charging port of the EV is housed on the rear fender. The tri-slash design language is implemented on the LED tail lamps as well.

Inside, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara flaunts a two-spoke steering wheel with mounted controls. The dashboard has a premium finish. It houses a floating 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster. The SUV is also equipped with a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, a rear seat armrest with cup holders, connected car tech, a fixed-glass sunroof, and more.

In terms of safety features, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara packs 7 airbags, an Electronic Parking Brake, All-Disc Brakes, e-Call functionality, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and more. There is a Level 2 ADAS package onboard as well.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will get 2 battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh. These battery packs have a functional temperature range of -30°C – 60°C. Maruti has not revealed the driving range of the SUV yet, but it says that the 61kWh battery pack can last up to 500km on a single charge. The front-mounted electric motor puts out 143hp on the 49kWh variants and 173hp on the 61kWh. The full variant list will be revealed upon launch.

Final Thoughts

Maruti will produce 67,000 units of the e Vitara in FY2026. Most of these units will be shipped overseas. The electric SUV is already on sale in the UK, where its prices start at £26,249 (~Rs 31.03 lakh) and go up to £32,049 (~Rs 37.88 lakh). In India, it will go on sale by the end of 2025. Upon launch, it will rival the Hyundai Creta ElectricToyota Urban Cruiser EVMahindra BE 6Tata Curvv EVTata Nexon EV, and MG Windsor EV.
