Maruti Suzuki e Vitara reaches Nexa dealerships ahead of launch

Maruti Suzuki showcased its debut EV at the Bharat Global Mobility Expo in January. Since then, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara has completed its testing phase and is ready for launch. The electric SUV has started arriving at Nexa dealerships ahead of launch. Its promotional campaign will begin this month, followed by a launch in early May.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: What to expect?

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is based on the automaker’s eVX concept. The electric SUV stands at dimensions of 4,272mm x 1,800mm x 1,640mm and has a 2,700mm wheelbase. Up front, it gets tri-state LED headlamps, edgy DRLs, and a shut-off grille. The upright nose exudes a sporty look. The profile of the SUV reveals door handles mounted on the C-pillars. The charging port is placed on the rear fender. At the back, the SUV gets tri-state design LED tail lamps.

Maruti will offer the e Vitara in 6 monotone and 4 dual-tone colour schemes. The monotone colour options include Nexa Blue, Splendid Silver, Bluish Black, Arctic White, Grandeur Grey, and Opulent Red. On the dual-tone variants, the roof and A & B pillars will be blacked out. These variants will come in Splendid Silver, Arctic White, Opulent Red, and Land Breeze Green colour options.

Inside, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will feature a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system alongside a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster. The steering will have a 2-spoke design. There will be Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity onboard. The SUV will also carry features like a 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, rear seat armrest with cup holder, connected car tech, a fixed-glass sunroof, and more.

On the safety front, Maruti’s debut electric SUV will get 7 airbags, an Electronic Parking Brake, All-Disc Brakes, e-Call functionality, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and more. There will be a Level 2 ADAS package onboard as well.

The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will come in 2 battery sizes – 49kWh and 61kWh. These battery packs can operate in a -30°C – 60°C temperature range. The front-mounted single electric motor produces a maximum power output of 143hp on the 49kWh variants and 173hp on the larger battery variants. The 61kWh battery pack has a 500km range. It remains to be seen whether Maruti will offer any AWD variants for the SUV.

Final Thoughts

The launch of the e Vitara will be followed by the release of its Toyota cousin – Urban Cruiser EV. We expected the Maruti Suzuki’s debut all-electric offering in India to fetch up to Rs 18 lakh. It will be manufactured in India and shipped to global markets. Upon launch, the e Vitara will rival the Hyundai Creta Electric, Toyota Urban Cruiser EV, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, Tata Nexon EV, and MG Windsor EV.
