Maruti Suzuki recalls almost 40,000 units of the Grand Vitara in India

Maruti Suzuki has recalled 39,506 units of the Grand Vitara in India, the biggest since the SUV’s launch in 2022. The automaker says that the recall is being initiated due to a potential fault with the speedometer’s fuel level indicator and warning light. This is the fourth time that the midsize SUV has been recalled in India.

Maruti Suzuki to carry out free inspections and replacements

Maruti Suzuki has determined that the Grand Vitara units manufactured between December 9, 2024 and April 29, 2025 are affected by a potential speedometer issue. The automaker has acknowledged that the fuel level indicator and the warning light in some vehicles may not reflect the accurate status. The company will reach out to owners of the affected units to carry out free inspections and replacements.

The Grand Vitara was launched in India on September 26, 2022. Since then, the automaker has sold over 3 lakh units of the midsize SUV in India, setting an internal record. The SUV flaunts features like a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, a Head-Up Display (HUD), a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, an air purifier, and more.

In terms of safety features, it packs 6 airbags, 3-point ELR seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX CRS, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist, front and rear disc brakes, and ABS with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as standard features.

The Grand Vitara is offered in 2 engine options: a 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine with a strong hybrid system. The former puts out 103hp and 137Nm, while the latter produces 92hp and 137Nm by itself and 115hp and 137Nm in a strong hybrid setup. The electric motor alone produces a maximum power of 80hp with 141Nm peak torque.
