Kia EV9 engine specs revealed ahead of launch in India

Kia India is set to launch the all-electric EV9 on October 3 alongside the Carnival MPV. Ahead of the launch, Kia has revealed the interior details and engine specs for the electric SUV. Kia EV9 will be the successor to EV6 in India and one of the first cars to be launched under the ‘Kia 2.0’ strategy. The electric SUV was revealed globally in March 2023.

Kia EV9: What we know so far

The international model of the Kia EV9 is available in three powertrain options. The entry-level RWD model gets a 76.1kWh battery pack. This is followed by the 99.9kWh battery pack variant. The top-spec model gets AWD and two electric motors. Kia will bring the top-spec model to India. This variant features the 99.9kWh battery pack which provides a driving range of 561km. With a DC fast charger, this battery pack can be charged from 10-80% in 24 minutes.

The dual electric motor on the Kia EV9 produces a combined power output of 384hp and 700Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in just 5.3 seconds. It stands at dimensions of 5,015 x 1,980 x 1,780 mm and has a 3,100mm long wheelbase.

When it comes to design, the Kia EV9 sports the ‘Digital Pattern Lightning’ grille up front. This grille is flanked on either side by vertical LED headlamps and ‘Star Maps’ LED DRLs. The SUV has a butch stance and a tapering roofline. The tail lamps mimic the ‘Star Maps’ design of the DRLs.

Inside, the Kia EV9 flaunts a massive triple display unit. This display unit consists of two 12.5-inch touchscreens along with a 5-inch digital display. The dashboard sports an open floating panoramic design and spans the area from the steering wheel to the centre of the vehicle. The electric SUV gets three seating rows and two seating options. The middle row can be swivelled by 180 degrees to face the third row. In terms of features, it will receive dual electric sunroofs, massaging captain seats, a digital key, an electrically adjustable steering wheel, a 14-speaker sound system, and more.

Conclusion

Kia EV9 will be made available in five colour options – Ocean Blue, Pebble Grey, Pearl White, Aurora Black, and Panthera Metal. Since it is an import, the SUV will fetch over Rs 1 crore in India. It will rival the BMW iX, Mercedes EQE, Audi Q8 e-tron, and Volkswagen XC40 Recharge upon launch.
