Kia Carens refreshed with new turbo petrol engine, iMT gearbox

In order to comply with the upcoming emission norms, Kia Carens has been refreshed with a new turbo petrol engine. The new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine replaces the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine on the Carens. The SUV is also offered with a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, both of which have also been updated to meet the RDE norms.

2023 Kia Carens: Still available in three powertrain options

Kia Carens still comes in three powertrain options – 1.5-litre diesel, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, and the newest 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The diesel and naturally aspirated petrol engines on the Carens have also been updated to meet the RDE norms that are set to be enforced in April.

Kia has also introduced the iMT gearbox technology on the Carens. The top-end variants of the SUV will receive an iMT gearbox while the other variants will continue with the DCT gearbox. The new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and the diesel engine will not be offered in a manual transmission configuration. 

The new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine on Kia Carens produces a maximum power output of 158hp, which is 20hp more than the unit it replaces. The updated diesel engine puts out 114hp of power, which is slightly higher than the previous version. Kia has also updated the prices for Carens across all variants. Here are the updated prices.

1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol variants price list

  • Premium MT: Rs 10.45 lakh
  • Prestige MT: Rs 11.65 lakh

1.5-litre turbo petrol variants price list

  • Premium: Rs 12.00 lakh
  • Prestige: Rs 13.25 lakh
  • Prestige Plus: Rs 14.75 lakh
  • Luxury: Rs 16.20 lakh
  • Luxury Plus (6 Seater): Rs 17.50 lakh
  • Luxury Plus (7 Seater): Rs 17.55 lakh

1.5-litre diesel variants price list

  • Premium: Rs 12.65 lakh
  • Prestige: Rs 13.85 lakh
  • Prestige Plus: Rs 15.35 lakh
  • Luxury: Rs 16.80 lakh
  • Luxury Plus (6 Seater): Rs 18.00 lakh
  • Luxury Plus (7 Seater): Rs 18.00 lakh
  • Luxury Plus (6 Seater) AT: Rs 18.90 lakh
  • Luxury Plus (7 Seater) AT: Rs 18.95 lakh

Conclusion

Kia Carens was launched in February 2022 at a starting price of Rs 8.99 lakh. Since then, the SUV has undergone multiple price hikes and now starts at a price of Rs 10.45 lakh. Kia Carens rivals the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, XL6, and Mahindra Marazzo.
