Kia Carens EV available with a BaaS scheme, prices start at Rs 12.84 lakh

The Kia Carens EV is now available on a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) scheme. This has brought down the starting price of the electric MPV from Rs 17.99 lakh to Rs 12.84 lakh. It becomes the first all-electric Kia model to be offered with a battery rental plan. The BaaS scheme is available for battery variants of the Clavis EV. The rental fee is set at Rs 3.3 per km.

Kia Carens EV: BaaS scheme explained

Here is the price list for the Kia Carens EV under the battery rental scheme.

Trim BaaS Price Regular Price
Standard (42kWh) Rs 12.84 lakh (Rs 3.3/km) Rs 17.99 lakh
Extended (51.4kWh) Rs 15.94 lakh (Rs 3.3/km) Rs 21.99 lakh

Buyers interested in the BaaS scheme will have to adhere to Kia’s dual-loan financing structure, which is supported by leading financiers, including ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Bajaj Finserv. Under this structure, separate loan accounts will be created for the chassis and battery. The loan tenure lasts up to 60 months for the body and up to 96 months for the battery. The EMI for the Standard trims starts at Rs 26,650 after a down payment of Rs 51,520. Meanwhile, the Extended trims are available with an EMI of 33,099 after a down payment of Rs 60,452. The battery rental price is Rs 3.3 per kilometre for both trims.

The 42kWh battery variants offer a driving range of 404km (ARAI). This number goes up to 490km for the 51.4kWh variants. The front-mounted electric motor produces a maximum power output of 135hp on the 42kWh variants and 171hp on the 51.4kWh variants. The torque remains the same on all variants – 255Nm.

Mr Sunhack Park, Chief Sales Officer, Kia India, said, “At Kia India, sustainability is not limited to introducing electric vehicles, but about creating a complete ecosystem that makes EV adoption easier and more practical for customers. The Battery-as-a-Service model is a strategic step in that direction, enabling customers to experience advanced EV technology with reduced upfront acquisition costs and greater financial flexibility. This initiative aligns with our broader vision of shaping a smarter and more sustainable mobility future for India with our first made-in-India electric vehicle, the Kia Carens Clavis EV.”

Final Thoughts

Back in March, Kia updated the Carens Clavis EV with a 6-seat layout. It also added 3 new trims to its lineup. The electric MPV currently rivals the BYD eMax 7Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6 in India.
