Kia India has added a new mid-spec trim to its newly-launched electric MPV. The new ‘HTX E’ trim of the Kia Carens Clavis EV is priced at Rs 19.99 lakh. Its Extended Range (ER) variant fetches Rs 21.99 lakh. The HTX E trim is sandwiched between the HTK+ and HTX trims. It borrows a few features from the variant placed above it.

The new HTX E trim gets a good list of features over the entry-level K variant. These include ambient lighting (64-colour), leatherette upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with tilt and telescopic adjustments, voice commands for windows, retractable seatback table, IVRM, LED interior lights, and an air purifier. The interior follows a dual-tone beige and navy blue colour theme. The HTX E ER variant gets 19-inch alloy wheels.
The Carens Clavis EV is one of the safest MPVs in India. It packs 6 airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Hill-Start Assist, and more. The Level 2 ADAS package is only available on the HTX and HTX+ trims. Apart from this package, the HTX E and HTX trims are indistinguishable.
The HTK E trim of the Carens Clavis EV comes in 2 battery pack options – 42kWh (404km range, ARAI) and 51.4kWh (490km range, ARAI). The electric motor is mounted on the front axle and produces a maximum power output of 135hp on the 42kWh variants and 171hp on the 51.4kWh variants. The torque remains consistent on all variants – 255Nm.

The introduction of the E trim has brought down the price of the bigger, 51.4kWh battery pack for the Carens Clavis EV. Previously, it was available on the HTX and HTX+ trims, with prices starting at Rs 22.49 lakh. It is now available at Rs 21.99 lakh. The electric MPV rivals the BYD eMax 7, Hyundai Creta Electric, and Mahindra BE 6 in India.
