Isuzu D-Max EV makes global debut

The production model of the Isuzu D-Max EV has made its global debut at the Commercial Vehicle Show held in Birmingham, UK. The concept model of the EV was first showcased at the 45th Bangkok International Motor Show in Thailand in March last year. It was also showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi back in January. The EV has now entered mass production.

Isuzu D-Max EV: Everything you need to know

The Isuzu D-Max EV has been designed to cater to commercial and personal demands. It stands at dimensions of 5,280mm x 1,870mm x 1,810mm and has a 3,125mm wheelbase. Its newly developed front and rear eAxles ensure an excellent performance on rough terrain.

The pickup truck has high towing (3.5 tons) and payload (1 ton) capacities because of its electric motors and robust body and design. It delivers a rock-solid, rugged performance. In terms of design, it is almost identical to its ICE counterpart. Some of the changes include a shut-off grille, new detailing around the lighting sections, and tweaked bumpers.

The dual electric motors on the Isuzu D-Max EV produce a maximum power output of 188hp and 325Nm of torque. The electric pickup has an AWD configuration. It can go from 0-100km/h in 10.1 seconds. The 66.9kWh Li-ion battery offers a 263km driving range on a full charge. An 11kW AC charger takes up to 10 hours to fully charge this battery pack. Meanwhile, a 50kW DC charger can take it from 20% to 80% in 1 hour.

The Isuzu D-Max EV will be made available in two premium trim levels, equivalent to the D-Max DL40 and V-Cross. Its ADAS system will get new feature additions. The touchscreen infotainment system will come with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The new De-Dion rear suspension helps reduce the cabin noise and vibration by up to 10% under full acceleration.

Final Thoughts

Production of the Isuzu D-Max EV has already started in India. The pickup truck will first go on sale in Europe. It remains to be seen whether it will launch in India. Globally, the Isuzu D-Max EV will rival the BYD Shark 6 and the upcoming Toyota Hilux EV.
