  • Citroen Basalt will be revealed on August 2.
  • The coupe-SUV crossover will get some additional features over the SUV it is based on (C3 Aircross).
  • The Basalt is expected to be priced at Rs 12 lakh.

The Citroen Basalt crossover is set to make its debut in India later this week. The coupe-SUV crossover is based on the Citroen C3 Aircross. The automaker has dropped a new teaser video that confirms new features for the Basalt. In contrast, the C3 Aircross has not been able to hit the expected sales numbers due to a dearth of features compared to its competitors.

Citroen Basalt: New features?

The new promotional teaser dropped by Citroen India confirms three features on the Basalt crossover – electric controls for wing mirrors (OVRMs), rear AC vents, and power window buttons on the rear doors. On the C3 Aircross, power buttons for the rear windows are positioned on the rear part of the centre console. The 5-seater C3 Aircross lacks rear AC vents.

Other features on the Citroen Basalt include a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets a digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless charging, contoured headrests, and additional storage underneath the centre console. Like the C3 Aircross, it misses out on an electric sunroof.

Citroen Basalt will be powered by the same 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that does duty on the C3 Aircross. This engine produces a maximum power output of 110hp and 190Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. On the C3 Aircross, this engine offers a mileage of 18.5 kmpl.

Conclusion

Citroen India will officially reveal the Basalt on August 2. Its prices will be revealed soon after. We expect the crossover to fetch around Rs 12 lakh. Some Citroen dealerships have already started accepting unofficial bookings for the crossover. Upon launch, the Citroen Basalt will directly rival Tata Curvv and MG Cloud EV.
