BMW X5 updated with new features, prices hiked

BMW India has updated the X5 SUV with new features. Prices for the new BMW X5 now start at Rs 1.02 crore and go up to Rs 1.13 crore. The SUV continues to be offered in four variants. The prices of these four variants have been uniformly hiked by Rs 2.50 lakh. The top-spec M Sport variant of the X5 has been replaced by the M Sport Pro trim. No changes have been made under the hood of the SUV.

The new BMW X5 flaunts matrix Adaptive LED headlights with blue accents and BMW Selective Beam. The taillamps have an L-shaped design with X motifs within them. The design of the front air vents has been reworked. The SUV rests on 21-inch alloys. The M Sport Pro variants of the X5 distinguish themselves from the rest of the lineup with a gloss black finish on the grille, air vents, roof rails, and exhaust pipes. The brake callipers are finished in red. The X5 is available in 6 colour options: Brooklyn Grey, Carbon Black, Mineral White, Skyscraper Grey, Tanzanite Blue and Black Sapphire.

Inside, the standard variants of the BMW X5 get ‘Sensafin’ upholstery with Cognac shade. The M Pro variants get ‘Merino’ upholstery with the following colour combinations: Tartufo, Black and Ivory White, and Black. The SUV rocks a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It gets comfort seats, a 4-zone automatic climate control system, a Harman Kardon surround sound system, connected car tech, and more as standard features.

Previously, air suspension was only offered on the top-spec variants of BMW X5. This feature is now standard across all variants. The automaker has also introduced a new xOffroad package on the SUV. It includes 4 off-road driving modes – xSand, xRocks, xGravel, and xSnow.

 

Things remain the same under the hood as the BMW X5 retains the 2 powertrains from the outgoing model. The xDrive30d variants are powered by a 3-litre diesel engine that generates a maximum power output of 286hp and 650Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the xDrive40i variants are powered by a 3-litre turbo petrol engine. This engine puts out 381hp and 520Nm. Both engines are linked to a 48V mild-hybrid system. This system adds another 12hp and 200Nm to the output numbers. Handling the transmission duties on both variants is an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Final Thoughts

Bookings for the new BMW X5 are now open. Buyers can reserve their unit at the automaker’s retail outlets or on its website. The X5 continues to rival the Volvo XC90Mercedes-Benz GLELexus RX, and Land Rover Discovery in India.
