87,599 units of Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Eeco recalled over steering issue

Up to 87,599 units of Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Eeco have been recalled due to a problem with the steering tie rod. The S-Presso and Eeco units produced between July 5 2021, and February 15 2023 are expected to have this issue. Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki had recalled over 11,000 units of the Grand Vitara due to a seatbelt issue.

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso & Eeco: Steering issue explained

Maruti has revealed that 87,599 units of the Maruti Suzuki S Presso and Eeco manufactured between July 5 2021 and February 12 2023, had a possible defect in a part of the steering tie rod. In rare cases, this defect may cause the rod to break and cause issues with vehicle steerability handling. The automaker will contact the owners of the models affected by this issue and replace the defective unit free of cost. This is one of the biggest recalls in Mauri Suzuki’s history. In 2021, the automaker recalled nearly two lakh units of Ciaz, Vitara Brezza, and XL6, making it their biggest one so far.

The K10C engine on Maruti Suzuki S-Presso produces a maximum power of 67hp and 89Nm torque. This engine is paired with a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. This engine is also equipped with start-stop tech and features variable valve timing to deliver greater fuel efficiency. While the older K10B offered a fuel economy of 21.7kmpl, the new K10C offers 25.3kmpl on the AMT variant and 24.76kmpl on the manual version.

Maruti Suzuki Eeco is available in two powertrain options: 1.2-litre petrol and CNG. The 1.2-litre Advanced K-Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT engine produces a maximum power output of 79hp @ 6000rpm. In a CNG configuration, this engine puts out 70hp @ 6000rpm. The petrol engine delivers fuel efficiency of 20.20 km/l while in a CNG configuration, the Eeco offers a mileage of 27.05 km/kg.

Conclusion

Back in February, Maruti Suzuki hit the 10 lakh sales landmark for the Eeco. In July 2022, the automaker updated the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso with Celerio’s K10C engine. An ‘Xtra’ variant of the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso is also available in its lineup. Maruti also offers a CNG powertrain for the S-Presso, priced at Rs 5.90 lakh.
