River Indie crosses the 7,000 sales landmark

Bengaluru-based EV startup, River Mobility, has sold over 7,000 units of its debut electric scooter. River Indie was launched in India in February 2023. In March 2025, the automaker sold 1,000 units of its maiden electric scooter, setting a new monthly sales record. It surpassed the monthly sales record of 600 units that the company had set 2 months prior. River Mobility is currently expanding its retail network across the country.

River Indie: Pushing the boundaries

River Indie is manufactured at the automaker’s plant in Hoskote, Karnataka. This facility is capable of producing 1 lakh units annually. It spans over 1.20 lakh sq ft. It has automated lines for battery packs and vehicle assembly.

At the time of its launch, River Indie made waves with its radical design language and bold aesthetic. The twin-beam headlamps and clip-on handlebars are the biggest highlights of its front fascia. Along the sides, the electric scooter rests on 14-inch wheels, which is a first for the segment. The Indie boasts tremendous storage space with a 43-litre under-seat capacity and a 12-litre front glove box. The Lock & Load pannier-stays on the sides can be customised to serve multiple purposes. In November 2024, River Mobility updated the Indie to include a chain final drive, another first in the segment.

River Indie is equipped with an IP67-rated 4kWh battery pack. On a full charge, the electric scooter offers a driving range of 161km. The electric motor generates a maximum power output of 6.7kW and 26Nm of torque. The scooter can go from 0-40kmph in under 4 seconds while the top speed has been capped at 90kmph.

The River Indie is packed with interesting features like reverse parking assist, side stand cutoff, LCD dash, LED lighting, USB charging ports, and add-on luggage options. There are 3 ride modes on offer – Eco, Ride, and Rush.

Final Thoughts

River Indie is priced at Rs 1.43 lakh in India. River Mobility’s retail network currently consists of 27 stores across Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Vellore, Visakhapatnam, and other cities. The automaker plans on increasing its presence to over 100 cities in India by 2026. River Indie primarily rivals Ather 450XOla S1 Pro, and Hero Vida V1. Yamaha, being an early investor in River Indie, is currently in the process of road testing an Indie-based scooter. It has been internally codenamed RY01. It will be Yamaha’s debut electric scooter in the Indian market.
