Bikers really get excited during the monsoon as it is the best time to take long rides. However, many riders forget that not only do they require good skills for riding in the rain, but also their bikes require some extra care.
Below are a few points to keep in mind during this monsoon season to keep your bike up and running properly.

Two-wheelers are automatically exposed to harsh weather. Unlike cars, bikes are exposed directly to dust and water. Once in a while getting your bike wet is fine. Keeping it exposed to water for a long time can cause rusting and electric failures. It’s better to keep your bike covered all the time also, make sure your bike is parked under a safe infrastructure. Falling of objects from above can cause damage to your bike.
Bikes especially having metal bodies are prone to get rest easily with direct weather contact. So, if it’s possible to get a Teflon coating done on your bike. What Teflon coating does is, it makes a protective layer around the paint job. It also protects the bike from scratches and smudges. Over that, get an anti-rust protection layer done on your bike as it will give extra strength to the metal frame of the bike.
After or during rains the roads are extra slippery and greasy due to the motor oil of other vehicles. There are safety features like ABS to save a rider from crashing but even those won’t work well if your tires are worn out. The ideal depth of the tire grooves is 2 millimetres, which will allow it to get a decent grip on wet roads. Also, check that your tire pressure is ideal as recommended by the company. Tire pressure also plays a major role for your tire to grip properly.
Most of the major parts of the bike are open and in direct contact with mud and water. Mud deposits on the chain can increase the rate of wear and tear. Also while riding, the watery surface washes away the lubricant of the chain. This will result in an increase in friction and tension. Mud deposits on the engine panel can reduce the cooling efficiency of the bike, which can further cause major problems. It’s better to be away from the hassle and keep your bike clean and lube your chain after every 500 Km.
Your bike can have either a drum brake or a disk brake. Both lose their efficiency and wear off over time. It’s important to check the brake pads from time to time. If the brake pads look worn out and thin, get them replaced as soon as possible. Also, make sure that the brake fluid is there in the brake fluid reservoir if you use a disk brake setup. Get the disk of the brake clean often during the rainy season. Dirt and mud deposits on the disk of the brake can reduce the efficiency of the brakes.
Get your bike serviced on time before the monsoon and follow these steps. This will surely allow you to have a better and safe ride and will keep you and your bike monsoon ready. We also advise keeping the speed slow on a wet surface. Even with new safety features and technology like ABS in the bike, mishaps can happen.
