The Kia Carnival will be getting a hybrid soon. Ahead of the launch, Kia India has started accepting pre-bookings for the hybrid MPV. The standard version of the Carnival comes in a single Limousine+ variant, which uses a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine under its hood. However, the Carnival HEV will be powered by the 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine borrowed from the Sorento in conjunction with an electric motor.

Kia Carnival HEV: What to expect?
The hybrid version of the Kia Carnival will not get any cosmetic updates. It will carry forward the ‘Tiger Nose’ grille, Intelligent Ice Cube LED Projection Headlamps (ILED), and Starmap Daytime Running Lights (SDRL) from the standard model. The MPV will rest on 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the back, the tail lamps will follow the ‘Starmap’ design language and will be connected by a light bar. The HEV badge on the tailgate will distinguish the hybrid model from its diesel counterpart.
The interior layout and design will remain unchanged as well. However, the Carnival HEV will get a couple of feature additions in the form of a virtual engine sound system and retractable, height-adjustable seat-back tables with integrated wireless charging. Other features like 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster, 11-inch advanced Heads-Up display, 64-colour ambient mood lighting, tilt & telescopic steering wheel, automatic anti-glare IVRM, and automatic temperature control have been carried forward from the standard model.
The Level 2 ADAS suite on the Carnival Hybrid has 23 autonomous features, including Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Front Collision Warning, Smart Cruise Control with Stop/ Go, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Follow Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind-spot Collision Warning & Avoidance Assist, Rear-cross Traffic Collision Warning & Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist, and more.
Under the hood, the Carnival HEV rocks a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine linked to an electric motor. The petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 180hp and 265Nm, while the electric motor pumps out 73.4hp and 304Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. This hybrid setup is also found on the Kia Sorento, but its electric motor produces 65hp and 264Nm.
Meanwhile, the standard version of the Kia Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. This engine generates a maximum power output of 193hp and 441Nm of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed torque converter gearbox.

Final Thoughts
As mentioned earlier, the Carnival HEV will be made available in a single Limousine+ variant. Its prices will be announced in the coming weeks. The diesel model is priced at Rs 59.65 lakh. It rivals the Toyota Innova HyCross and Toyota Vellfire in India.
