A facelifted version of the 3-door Mahindra Thar is in the works, even though it was updated last year. The first spy shots of the lifestyle SUV appeared in March, when a camouflaged test mule was spotted on a road test in Tamil Nadu. Now, the 3-door Thar has been spotted again, this time in Nashik, Maharashtra. The front and rear sections of the mule were draped in camouflage, signalling cosmetic revisions.

3-door Mahindra Thar facelift: What to expect?

The newly spotted test mule of the 3-door Thar differs significantly from the previous units when it comes to the front fascia. The spy shots emerging from Nashik reveal a 5-slat grille for the SUV, while previous spottings indicated a 6-slat grille like the Thar Roxx. The last two slats on the new unit are connected by a narrow bridge, which is believed to be the Mahindra badging. The running theory is that the automaker will offer the 3-door Thar in different grille designs spread across different trim levels. The new spy shots also reveal a new design for the 5-spoke alloy wheels. The rear section has also been reworked.

No details are known about the interior of the 3-door Mahindra Thar facelift yet. Since this is a comprehensive facelift model, as opposed to the mild refresh that happened last year, the lifestyle SUV could get a new dashboard layout and colour theme. We don’t expect it to get any big feature additions, as the current model is already quite loaded. The facelift model will retain the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display. This display supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will also carry forward Adventure Stats Gen II, which offers off-road data such as a racing tab, altimeter, outside temperature and pressure, trip meter and steering direction. The Tyre Direction Monitoring System gives real-time information on tyre orientation.

Other features like rear AC vents, fuel lid button, door-mounted power window switches, individual armrests for the driver and the front passenger, and A-pillar grab handle will also make the cut.

The 3-door Thar facelift will not receive any mechanical changes. It will continue to be offered in 3 engine options. The 2.0-litre petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 152hp. The 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine generates a maximum power output of 119hp and 300Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine puts out 132hp.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the current 3-door Mahindra Thar lineup start at Rs 10.32 lakh and go up to Rs 18 lakh. The new model will demand a premium over these prices. While Mahindra has not hinted towards a launch yet, we expect the facelift to hit the market in the first quarter of 2027. Upon launch, it will rival the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
