3-door Mahindra Thar ‘OG’ launched at a starting price of Rs 10.32 lakh

The 3-door Mahindra Thar has been updated with a facelift. The new range gets the ‘OG’ moniker, with prices starting at Rs 10.32 lakh. There are 3 trim levels on offer – AXT, LXT, and ZXT. The top-spec variant fetches Rs 17.75 lakh. The facelifted model gets a new platform, more powerful engines, and several cosmetic updates.

The Thar OG is underpinned by Mahindra’s new ‘M_Glyde 4G’ platform. This is the same architecture that’s found underneath the 5-door Thar Roxx. According to Mahindra, this platform offers more structural stiffness. The new rear Pentalink suspension with a Watts Link, also borrowed from the 5-door Thar, gives better control over the lateral movement of the rear axle. The facelifted model also gets Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD) tech.

The new model also gets Electronic Locking Differential (ELD), which rushes power to the wheel with the strongest grip by locking the rear axle electronically. This comes in handy while off-roading on slippery and muddy surfaces. There are 3 drive modes on offer – Mud, Sand, and Snow. The hydraulic power steering makes way for electronic power steering on the 2026 model.

The higher variants of the Thar OG are equipped with 6 airbags. Mahindra claims it to be the first lifestyle SUV in its segment to carry 4 ‘Head Pelvis Thorax Shoulder’ airbags for passengers in both rows. All four wheels of the SUV are now equipped with disc brakes. There is an ESP 9.3 suite on board as well. 

Talking about the cosmetic updates, the Mahindra Thar OG gets a new front grille and LED headlamps. These headlamps are integrated with C-shaped LED DRLs. The LED fog lamps have a native cornering function. The front and rear bumpers have been updated as well. The tail lamps have been refreshed, and there’s ‘OG’ branding on the tailgate. Along the sides, the lifestyle SUV gets new 19-inch alloy wheels.

The Mahindra Thar OG continues to be offered in 3 engine options – 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel, and 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol. The latter two have been updated to produce a higher output. The 2.2L diesel engine now puts out 152hp and 330Nm, an improvement of 18hp and 30Nm over its predecessor. The 2.0L turbo-petrol generates 162hp and 330Nm, which is 10hp and 30Nm higher than the previous model. The 1.5-litre diesel engine continues to put out 117hp and 300Nm. There are RWD and AWD variants on offer.

Mahindra has added 2 new colour options for the new Thar OG – Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue. The starting price of the lifestyle SUV is identical to its outgoing counterpart. It continues to rival the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha.
