Yamaha R2: What’s on offer?

Here is the price list for all variants of the Yamaha R2.

Variant Price Colours
Standard Rs 2.30 lakh Dark Bluish Gray, Metallic Black
Quick Shift Rs 2.39 lakh Racing Blue, Matte White Pearl
R2M Rs 2.53 lakh Metallic Gray

The Yamaha R2 is underpinned by an all-new platform. It uses a high-tensile steel diamond frame and a pivot-mounted aluminium die-cast swingarm. Weighing 14kg, the steel diamond frame is lighter than the Yamaha R15’s Deltabox frame. This is the major reason why the R2 is the lightest motorbike in its segment, with a kerb weight of 149kg. The Quick Shift R2M variants weigh 150kg. The seat is at a height of 810mm, compared to the R15’s 815mm. The wheelbase is 1,340mm long.

Powering the R2 is a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled 204cc engine that generates a maximum power output of 26.5hp at 10,000rpm and 19.1Nm at 8,000rpm. It uses a DOHC setup as opposed to an SOHC setup. The latter is found on the R15. The R2 also lacks Variable Valve Actuation. Its valves are coated with DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon), a feature it shares with the YZF-R1. The motorbike has a power-to-weight ratio of 5.62kg/PS.

The R2 has a 24.5-degree caster angle along with a 103mm trail and 20mm front-fork offset. Suspension duties on the motorbike are handled by 37mm USD forks. Dual-channel ABS is offered as a standard feature across all three variants. The ride-by-wire throttle unlocks three ride modes – Street, Sport, and Rain. Other features include an assist, traction control, and a slipper clutch. The 5-inch TFT display is similar to the one on the R15. There’s support on board for turn-by-turn navigation. Riders can connect their smartphones to this display using the Y-Connect app.

The mid-spec variant offers a bi-directional quickshifter – a first for the segment. It also comes with body-coloured alloy wheels. The top-spec R2M model gets a pre-load adjustable front and rear suspension, a faux-suede seat, adjustable braking, clutch levers, and keyless operation.
