Tata Altroz facelift to get an AMT gearbox for CNG powertrain

Tata Motors launched the facelifted version of the Altroz hatchback yesterday. The Tata Altroz facelift is available in 3 engine options – petrol, diesel, and CNG. Sources have revealed that Tata Motors will be adding an AMT gearbox option for the CNG variants of the Altroz soon. Tata currently offers an AMT gearbox with the CNG models of Tiago and Tigor.

Tata Altroz 2025: Automatic CNGs arriving soon

The Tata Altroz facelift carries forward the powertrains of the outgoing model. The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 87hp and 115Nm of torque. This engine can be mated to a 5-speed manual, a 5-speed AMT, or a 6-speed DCT gearbox. The 1.5-litre diesel engine puts out 89hp and 200Nm. This engine is mated to a manual gearbox. It does not have the option of an automatic transmission. Lastly, the CNG engine generates 73hp and 103Nm. As of now, this engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The option of a 5-speed AMT gearbox will be added in the next 2 months.

In terms of cosmetics, the Tata Altroz facelift gets a lot of significant upgrades. It flaunts an updated 3D grille and new designs for the front bumper and fog lamp housings. The LED headlamps and DRLs also feature a new look. The door handles now sit flush on their panels, giving the hatchback a more premium feel. The 16-inch alloy wheels have received a design upgrade as well. At the back, a sleek LED light bar runs between the two T-shaped LED taillamps.

Inside, the Tata Altroz facelift showcases 2 10.25-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and the touchscreen infotainment system. The 2-spoke steering wheel from the Nexon SUV and Curvv crossover has been added to the premium hatchback. Other features include a 360-degree surround view camera with blind view monitor, a voice-enabled sunroof, an air purifier, connected car tech with over 50 functions, and wireless charging. On the safety front, the hatchback gets 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts, Hill Hold Assist, SOS calling, and more.

Final Thoughts

Tata Motors is the only automaker in India that offers an automatic gearbox with its CNG offerings. With an automatic transmission, the CNG models offer better mileage. Prices for the Tata Altroz CNG start at Rs 7.89 lakh and go up to Rs 11.09 lakh.
