Next-generation Tata Nexon spotted testing in Maharashtra

Tata Motors is currently preparing the Nexon for a generational update. The current-gen Tata Nexon got a facelift back in 2023. By the end of this year, it will have completed its 3-year cycle. The 2nd-gen model will go on sale in 2027. It was recently spotted on a road test near Pune, Maharashtra. The test mule was completely camouflaged, suggesting a complete design overhaul. The SUV has been internally codenamed ‘Garud’.

2027 Tata Nexon: Here’s what the spy shots suggest

While the test mule of the Tata Nexon was draped in heavy camouflage, its profile indicated significant differences from the current-gen model. The C-pillar looks more prominent and upright. This could also improve the headroom for rear passengers. The current-gen Nexon has a sloping roofline. The rear door has a new look too. The A-pillar has a sharper edge to it. Its counterpart on the current model has a rounded shape.

At the back, the windscreen has a flatter and more angular look. The current model uses curved glass for the rear windscreen. While the test mule does not give any cues towards the design, Tata could make heavy changes to the tailgate and the bumper. The mule has cutouts for the tail lamps, but Tata was using the units from the current model so as not to give anything away. The same strategy was used for the alloy wheels.

No spy shots of the next-gen Nexon’s interior have surfaced so far. We expect it to get a refreshed dashboard and cabin, along with updated instrumentation. The current-gen model offers features like a 2.3-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a 360-degree camera, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, a voice-controlled panoramic sunroof, a Blind View Monitor, wireless charging, ventilated front seating, 6 airbags, ADAS, and more.

Reports suggest that the 2nd-generation Nexon will retain the powertrain of the current-gen model. The latter is offered in 3 engine options. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 170Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 260Nm of torque. These engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or AMT gearbox. Lastly, the 1.2-litre CNG model produces a maximum power output of 100hp and 170Nm of torque. It can only be paired with a manual transmission. The Nexon CNG has a boot space capacity of 321 litres, a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres, and a mileage of 24 km/kg.

Final Thoughts

More details about the 2nd-gen Nexon are awaited in the following months. The SUV is expected to go on sale in India in mid-2027. The current lineup starts at Rs 7.39 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.40 lakh. It rivals the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV300, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza in India.
