MG Comet: New pricing and features

The Pace, Play, and Plush variants of the MG Comet EV have been renamed to Executive, Ecite, and Exclusive. The variants shipping with the faster charger will cost a small premium over their regular counterparts. While the starting price of the EV remains the same, the Exclusive (previously Plush) variant is now Rs 20,000 more expensive. Here is the full price list for MG Comet.

Variant Price
Executive Rs 6.99 lakh
Excite Rs 7.88 lakh
Excite (w/ fast charger) Rs 8.24 lakh
Exclusive Rs 8.78 lakh
Exclusive (w/ fast charger) Rs 9.14 lakh

The 17.3kWh battery pack on the MG Comet EV offers a driving range of 230km. This battery pack has been sourced from Tata AutoComp and is rated IP67 for dust and water resistance. Using the 3.3kW charger that comes with the car, the EV can be fully charged in seven hours. MG Motor has not specified the charging speed of the 7.4kW charger. The EV derives power from a single electric motor that can produce a maximum power output of 42hp and 110Nm of torque.

MG Comet EV stands at dimensions of 2,974mm x 1,505mm x 1,631mm and has a wheelbase of 2,010mm. This makes the urban commuter smaller than Tata Nano. The Comet is underpinned by SAIC’s GSEV platform. This is the same platform as the Wuling Air (the EV that it is based on). The Comet EV continues MG Motor’s tradition of naming its cars after WW2-era British fighter jets.

Inside, the MG Comet EV is decked with premium features.  It gets dual 10.25-inch screens for the infotainment system and the instrument cluster. The steering sports a two-spoke design with integrated controls. The cabin exudes a unique look due to the central console being detached from the dashboard.  A total of 55 connectivity features are available for the Comet and can be accessed through the dedicated app. The Excite and Exclusive variants also get the option of features like ESC, electronic parking brake, hill-hold control, and more.

Conclusion

Priced between Rs 6.99 lakh – Rs 9.14 lakh, the MG Comet is still pricey for an EV its size. However, its premium features make it appealing to a niche demographic. At this price, its closest rivals are Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3, and Tata Tigor EV.
