Kia Syros EV spotted testing in Tamil Nadu

The Kia Syros EV is expected to go on sale in India later this year. Its ICE sibling went on sale in February 2025. The all-electric model has been spotted testing on Indian roads since August 2025. A fully-camouflaged test mule of the EV was recently sighted in Tamil Nadu. It is believed to be close to the production model. More details about the electric SUV are expected to be revealed as we get closer to launch.

Kia Syros EV: Here’s what we know so far

The test mule of the Syros EV that was spied recently was draped in heavy covering. Its dimensions look identical to its ICE sibling. Not many design and cosmetic changes are expected on the all-electric version, but it will get some EV-exclusive details along the front and rear sections. This includes a shut-off grille. The spy shots reveal that the charging port will be placed above the front left fender. The SUV will also rock exclusive EV badging. The profile will remain unchanged, but the electric SUV could get aero-optimised alloy wheels on higher variants.

No spy shots of the interior of the Syros EV have surfaced so far. The electric SUV will get some exclusive highlights on its dashboard and cabin, but for the most part, it will carry forward the layout and instrumentation of its ICE sibling. This means it will rock twin 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster, and a 5-inch climate control system. Other features that are expected make the cut include an 8-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, a 4-way powered front seat, seat ventilation, reclining and sliding second-row seats, 64-colour ambient mood lighting, and wireless charging.

Kia has kept a tight lid on the battery and power output specs of the Syros EV. It is rumoured that it will borrow its battery pack from the Hyundai Inster EV. If that comes to fruition, the electric SUV will be made available in 42kWh and 49kWh battery pack options. These battery packs will offer a driving range of 300km and 370km, respectively.

All variants of the Syros EV will be powered by a single front-mounted electric motor. If the powertrain is carried over from the Inster EV, the entry-level models will produce a maximum power output of 96hp and 147Nm of torque. The higher variants will put out 113hp and 147Nm.

In comparison, the ICE version of the Kia Syros comes in 2 powertrain options. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 120hp and 172Nm of torque. It can be linked to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces a maximum power output of 115hp and 250Nm of torque. This engine also gets 2 transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter gearbox.

Final Thoughts

We expect the Syros EV to launch in mid to late 2026. It will be priced above Rs 10 lakh. Upon launch, it will rival the likes of the Tata Nexon EVTata Punch EV, and Mahindra XUV 3XO EV.
