Hyundai Motor introduces next-gen ‘Pleos Connect’ infotainment system

Hyundai Motor Group has unveiled its next-generation ‘Pleos Connect’ infotainment system. It will make its debut on the Hyundai Grandeur facelift that is set to launch in South Korea this month. This will be followed by a phased global rollout, with the Ioniq 3 set to become the first European Hyundai model to receive the in-car infotainment system.

Pleos Connect: Everything you need to know

Hyundai says that Pleos Connect is built on three core development pillars – intuitiveness, safety, and openness. It will combine a mobile-friendly user environment with advanced AI. The system will receive constant enhancements via Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates. 

The Pleos Connect cockpit features 2 main displays. The large central screen is divided into 3 sections: the driving information screen (for essential data like speed, warning lights, and 3D graphics of surrounding objects, and more), the app screen (for navigation, media, and third-party apps), and the bottom bar (for easy access to recently used and pinned apps). The app screen can be switched between the Single Screen mode for immersive content and the Split Screen for multitasking.

Accompanying the large central screen is a slim display positioned directly in front of the driver. Its purpose is to keep the driver’s focus forward while displaying key information like speed, media and turn-by-turn directions. These items are directly in the line of sight of the driver.

Hyundai has significantly improved the navigation system in Pleos Connect. The screen layout and menus have been reorganised around core, high-frequency functions. Complex graphics have given way to simple icons that can be deciphered at a glance. Additionally, drivers can customise the layout of the display, running another app alongside the navigation system. Important information like ETA shows up in floating cards for more intuitive recognition. Lastly, the system uses real-time traffic data to constantly update the road information and suggest optimal routes.

Gleo AI makes it easy to interact with Pleos Connect in natural language. The voice assistant is context-aware, which means it can use the navigation data to understand abstract commands like ‘go there’ and ‘find a restaurant there’. It can recognise the speaker’s location in the car to carry out precise commands like turning on the seat’s heating system. The voice assistant is capable of processing multiple commands simultaneously.

Final Thoughts

As mentioned earlier, Pleos Connect will make its debut on the Hyundai Grandeur facelift this month. The automaker aims to introduce it in almost 20 million Hyundai Motor, Kia, and Genesis vehicles by 2030.
