Honda announces ‘Alpha’ as the name of its first India-made global electric SUV

Honda Car India has finally confirmed ‘Alpha’ as the official name for its upcoming electric SUV for the country. It is based on the Honda 0 Alpha concept that was first showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025. The Honda Alpha will make its global debut in India on December 2. It has been undergoing road tests in the country since March 2026. The electric SUV will use Honda’s new ‘H’ logo.

Honda Alpha: What to expect?

The test mules of the Honda Alpha that have been spotted so far confirm that the production model will retain the boxy look of the prototype. It will set itself apart from the other electric SUVs on the market with its near-vertical rear section and chunky C-pillar. The front fascia will rock a flat nose too. The shut-off grille will house the charging port and the illuminated ‘H’ logo. The LED headlamps will have a completely new design language that has never been seen before on a Honda offering in India.

The dashboard of the Honda Alpha will be equipped with a large, free-floating central infotainment system. A smaller digital instrument cluster will join this setup. There will be wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity on board. The three-spoke steering wheel will have a flat bottom design. It will be integrated with paddle shifters. The centre console will have lots of physical controls for functions like seat ventilation, climate control, and more.

Other features like rear AC vents, a voice-controlled panoramic sunroof, a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, connected car tech, and an ADAS package are expected to make the cut on the electric SUV. Honda has confirmed a 2,800mm wheelbase for the Alpha. This will translate into lots of legroom for rear passengers.

Honda has also confirmed that the Alpha will come in 2 battery pack options. These are expected to be LFP batteries in 65kWh and 75kWh sizes. The EV will be powered by a front-mounted electric motor. An RWD variant may join the lineup later down the line.

Honda ALPHA represents our ambition to bring advanced electric mobility to our customers in India while delivering the quality, reliability and joy of driving that Honda is known for.” “With India serving as the global production base for this model in future, it is an important step in Honda’s electrification journey and reflects our strong commitment to the Indian market. We look forward to ushering in a new chapter for Honda in India with this exciting new offering.”

Final Thoughts

More details about the equipment, features, and powertrain are expected as we get closer to the Alpha’s launch date. The electric SUV will be manufactured at Honda’s production facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan. It will be exported to global markets from India. This includes its home base, Japan. In India, the EV will rival the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV.
