Dash Boost Mode, iVT, and more confirmed for Hyundai Bayon

The Hyundai Bayon is all set to go on sale in India on October 26. Ahead of its launch, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) has been dropping new details about the SUV. Earlier this week, it confirmed the safety and ADAS features of its upcoming offering. Now, some of the mechanical features have been confirmed by the automaker. Hyundai is currently accepting bookings for the Bayon for a token amount of Rs 11,000.

Hyundai Bayon: Mechanical features explained

The Bayon is powered by the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Hyundai Creta. It generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 144Nm of torque. The engine can be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). The latter offers smooth power delivery, driving efficiency and refined performance.

The Intelligent Variable Transmission also works in tandem with Dash Boost Mode, Sporty Drive Tech, and three other selectable drive modes (Eco, Normal, and Sport). The Dash Boost Mode delivers an instant power boost, while Sporty Drive Tech delivers a more connected acceleration experience. There are paddle shifters on board to let the driver control transmission response from the steering wheel.

The dashboard of the Bayon packs dual 12.3-inch displays for the touchscreen infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets Hyundai India’s first Generative AI voice assistant, powered by Perplexity AI and SoundHound AI. Software duties are handled by the automaker’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC). The Bluelink connected car tech suite comprises functions like remote start/stop, remote vehicle controls, smartphone/smarwatch connectivity, connected vehicle information, and more.

In terms of safety features, the Hyundai Bayon gets 6 airbags, Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), rollover sensor, burglar alarm, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), 3-point seatbelts with reminders, central locking, ISOFIX anchorages, rear parking sensors, an escort function for headlamps, and more. There’s a Level 2 ADAS package on board as well.

Mr Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “At Hyundai, we believe performance is not defined solely by power figures, but by how naturally and confidently a vehicle responds to the driver in everyday situations. With Hyundai BAYON, we have combined our trusted four-cylinder 1.5L MPi petrol engine with intelligent driving technologies to deliver a driving experience that feels smooth, responsive and engaging across a variety of road conditions. Technologies such as the Intelligent Variable Transmission (iVT), Dash Boost Mode, Sporty Drive Tech and selectable drive modes work seamlessly together to adapt to the driver’s needs and enhance confidence behind the wheel. Guided by our philosophy of ‘Intelligence That Moves,’ Hyundai BAYON delivers a refined and intuitive driving experience designed for the evolving expectations of Indian customers.”

Final Thoughts

The Bayon will be made available in 6 monotone and 2 dual-tone options. We expect its prices to start at Rs 9 lakh. Hyundai will commence the delivery rollout in November. Upon launch, the SUV will rival the Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, and Tata Nexon in India.
