Volvo will be bringing the updated version of the XC90 SUV to India on March 4. The Volvo XC90 facelift made its global debut in September 2024. The facelifted SUV gets cosmetic and feature upgrades but remains the same under the hood. However, the diesel powertrain option from the outgoing version has been discontinued on the newer model.

Volvo XC90 facelift: Everything you need to know

The new Volvo XC90 showcases a more contemporary design. The front grille gets a few tweaks and integrates diagonal slats into its design. Flanking the grille on both sides are Volvo’s signature Thor Hammer LED DRLs. Along the sides, the alloy wheels get more options. At the back, the LED tail lamps have been slightly redesigned.

Inside, the Volvo XC90 facelift gets a new central touchscreen with a higher resolution. This 11.2-inch infotainment display supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. On either side of the vertically aligned touchscreen infotainment system lie the AC vents. The HVAC panel is placed at the bottom of the screen. Other features include a Bowers & Wilkins high-fidelity audio system, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and more.

No changes have been made to the Volvo XC90 facelift under the hood. The B5 and B6 mild-hybrid models are powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. This engine is assisted by a 48V lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter/generator. This mild hybrid system can help reduce emissions by up to 15%. The B5 model produces a maximum power output of 247hp while the B6 puts out 297hp.

Meanwhile, the strong plug-in hybrid model generates a combined power output of 455hp. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine puts out 310hp while the rear-axle-mounted electric motor produces 145hp. The 14.7kWh battery pack offers a driving range of 71km. All of the three engines available with the SUV are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Conclusion

As mentioned earlier, the Volvo XC90 facelift will be launched in India on March 4. The soon-to-be-outgoing model is priced at Rs 1.01 crore in India. Expect the facelifted model to demand a small premium over this price. Upon launch, the 2025 XC90 will rival the Audi Q7, BMW X7, Land Rover Discovery, Mercedes Benz GLS, and Lexus Ux 350h.
