The Volkswagen Taigun facelift is set to go on sale next week. Ahead of the April 9 launch, Volkswagen has started dropping teasers for the upcoming SUV. The facelifted model will get cosmetic tweaks, feature upgrades, and a new torque converter gearbox for its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Its Skoda counterpart, Kushaq, was refreshed with a facelift model last month.

The 8-second teaser video dropped by Volkswagen India for the Taigun facelift gives a glimpse of the SUV’s silhouette and confirms the April 9 launch date. Recent test mule sightings suggest fresh changes along the front fascia of the SUV. Its LED headlamps and DRLs will don a new look. A sleek LED bar will run across the width of the car, along a glossy trim. This trim will house the illuminated VW logo at the centre. The grille and front bumper will be reworked.
No big changes are expected along the sides. The teaser confirms an identical silhouette to the current model. The alloy wheels are expected to receive a new dual-tone design. At the back, the size of the taillamps will be increased. They will be connected by a sleek LED light bar. The rear bumper will be more muscular. The tailgate will have a cleaner look.
Inside, the Taigun facelift will retain the layout of the current model, but may get a new colour theme. The dashboard will rock a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. There will be support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay on board. Like the Skoda Kushaq facelift, the Taigun may also get the massage function for the rear seats. Other features like a panoramic sunroof (single-pane on entry-level variants), ventilated front seating, a multi-function steering wheel, ambient lighting and wireless charging are expected to make the cut. The safety quotient of the SUV will be enhanced by the presence of a Level 2 ADAS package.
Things will remain the same under the hood, as the Volkswagen Taigun facelift will continue to be offered in 2 engine options. The 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 115hp and 178Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The 8-speed torque converter gearbox, introduced on the new Skoda Kushaq, will replace the automatic gearbox for this engine. The 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 150hp and 250Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG transmission.
