Tata Sierra buyers facing waiting periods of up to 4 months

Last year, Tata revived its iconic ‘Sierra’ nameplate from the ‘90s for its new midsize SUV. The Tata Sierra was launched in November 2025 at a starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh. The booking window for the SUV was opened in December 2025, with the token amount set at Rs 21,000. The automaker received 70,000 bookings for the SUV in just 1 day. It began the delivery rollout on January 15. With Tata ramping up the production of the Sierra to meet the market’s demand, customers are facing waiting periods of up to 4 months to get their hands on the SUV.

Tata Sierra: Waiting period breakdown

Tata Sierra comes in 7 variants – Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished, and Accomplished+. Buyers get to choose from 3 engine options – 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, TGDI ‘Hyperion’ petrol engine, and 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine.

The Kryojet diesel variants are in the most demand, with waiting periods between 3 to 4 months, depending on the variants. The higher variants have a longer waiting time. The waiting period of the Revotron and Hyperion petrol engine variants is 2-4 weeks shorter than their Kryojet counterparts. When it comes to transmission, the automatic variants are taking 2-4 weeks longer to deliver than the manual ones. The Munnar Mist paint shade has the longest waiting period out of all the colour options.

The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated ‘Revotron’ petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 105hp and 145Nm of torque. It can be mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre TGDI ‘Hyperion’ petrol engine generates a maximum power output of 158hp and 255Nm of torque. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Lastly, the 1.5-litre ‘Kryojet’ diesel engine puts out 116hp. With a 6-speed manual transmission, it produces 260Nm torque. This output increases to 280Nm when the engine is linked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Sierra SUV is decked with premium features. Its triple-screen setup comprises a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen infotainment system, and another 12.3-inch display for the passenger. Other features include a Head Up Display, a 12-speaker JBL sound system with Dolby Atmos, a 6-way powered driver’s seat with memory function, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, birthday celebration mode, relax mode, and more.

Final Thoughts

Prices for the Sierra start at Rs 11.49 lakh and go up to Rs 21.29 lakh. Tata plans on adding AWD variants to the SUV’s lineup later this year. The all-electric version of the SUV will land in India next year. As things stand, the Sierra rivals the Maruti Suzuki Grand VitaraHyundai CretaToyota Urban Cruiser HyRyderKia SeltosSkoda Kushaq, and MG Hector in India.
